“The Best of the City Music scene” is the New Yorker’s weekly roundup of the best new music from the City.
We’ve been looking for the right time to revisit some of our favorites over the last year, and with that in mind, we’re excited to announce our list of the 10 best new musical performances in New York, with a few surprises in the mix.
It’s not the same as a list of all the best music from New York (which is available in print), but it does cover the City’s music scene, and it’s a pretty comprehensive list.
For instance, our inaugural list included an entire list of New York music venues (including the infamous New York Club) and the most exciting and memorable acts in the scene.
This year, we added the likes of Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, The Chainsmokers, Beyoncé, The National, and much more.
While the list is pretty expansive, we also wanted to make sure to include artists that we haven’t seen in quite some time, so we picked some of the more recent acts to make the list.
So, without further ado, let’s start our list.
