CNN chess player Robert Hahn, who played on the world’s most famous chessboard for more than 50 years, has died at age 70.
Hahn died Monday in San Diego after a short illness, according to his publicist, and he was survived by his wife and four children.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013, his publicists said.
“We are devastated by the loss of Robert Hensley,” chess world champion Garry Kasparov wrote on Twitter.
Hensleys wife, Karen, and daughters, Sarah and Mary, wrote on Facebook that he was “so lucky to have such a great family.”
Hahn began playing chess at age 7, when he learned his parents were Jewish and he wanted to become a chess grandmaster.
He began working with Kasparovsky in 1984, and they became good friends and professional chess players.
Kasparsov would sometimes take Hahn to games in the San Diego area to see his game.
The two were in the same family and shared many interests, including movies and traveling.
Hauschka and Kasparovich had four children, but Hahn did not have a daughter until his death.
Hansons wife of 47 years, Laura Haus, wrote that his death was “a huge loss for all of us.
We miss him very much.”
Kasparowsky’s wife, Anna, told the Associated Press that she was “deeply saddened” by the news.
“He was an amazing, beautiful man, and we will miss him,” she said.
In his memoirs, Kasparowitz wrote that he did not realize his son had cancer until his daughter told him in December that Hahn had passed away.
“I was shocked.
It seemed so obvious.
I never thought it could happen to me,” Kasparóz wrote.
“But he was a very strong man, a very kind man, who loved chess.
He will always be my son.”
Hausschka and Haussey died in August.
Hennie, the other child, was born in 1975 and was the youngest of Kasparovic’s children.
Hohn is the fifth of Kasartovsky’s children to die.
The three oldest Kasparowks also died.
The world chess champion has been hospitalized with pancreatitis since November.
He suffered a blood clot in May and underwent surgery in June.
The operation to remove the clot was successful, but he has been in intensive care since then, according, to his website.
Kasartov, a former World Chess Champion, won the championship in 2014, but the world championship was won by Kasparović in 2018.
His first two world titles were also held in San Francisco.
Kasperov and Kasperovic were known as “The Brothers of Kasputin,” a reference to the two men’s father, a prominent Soviet chess player who died in 1991 at the age of 90.
Kasperekov was a well-known chess player in his native Russia, but died in the early 1990s of an enlarged heart disease.
Kaspenov was known for his fiery style of chess, and his first match against Kasparowicz at the 1988 world championship in Moscow was legendary.
Kasparskaya, a player who made the first world championship appearance, won his first world title in 1986.
He won another world title the following year and won his third in 1994.
Kasprzyk’s brother, Igor, has been the world champion four times, and Kasprzesky has also been a champion once, in 1990, according a biography published in 2013 by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Kasputina died of pancreatic failure in June at the young age of 62, according his public biography.
Kaspetich was born April 9, 1940, in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, in what is now Ukraine.
He played chess professionally for several years, winning two world championships.
Kasimchuk was born on Jan. 15, 1943, in Belgrade, Serbia, according the biography.
He went on to become an international chess champion in 1980 and 1981, winning three world titles.
Kasimov is the third and last of Kasperovich’s children, the first of whom was born November 15, 1978.
He joined the Russian Chess Federation in 1979 and became its president in 1981.
Kasavkazov, who was born June 25, 1954, in St. Petersburg, was a star player for the Soviet Union before joining the U.S. Chess Federation.
The son of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, Kasavkov became the first black player to win a world championship, after defeating Boris Spassky in 1987.
Kasova and Kaspetsky are the only siblings in Kasparich’s family.
Kasaliev, the youngest, is a tennis player who was a member of the Russian national team.
Kasarin, who is married to Kasparova, was the first female grandmaster in Russian chess history.
