Chinese chess moves are currently only available in Chinese.
The language barrier means that English-speaking players cannot play against Chinese players in the world’s top five chess tournaments.
China has also introduced new restrictions on the availability of Chinese chess sets in the country.
A number of chess websites, including chess-club.com and chess-center.com, do not offer chess pieces.
Chinese chess players are also not allowed to practice against any other player.
According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, Zhang Wei, Chinese players are very unhappy about the lack of chess pieces for their games.
He says that chess pieces are a necessary part of chess, but it’s the Chinese players’ choice not to play against their Chinese counterparts.
“I think the Chinese are unhappy with the fact that the pieces are not available,” Zhang told Al Jazeera.
Zhang said the Chinese chess community is demanding more from chess and are not satisfied with the current state of affairs.
In the UK, Chinese chess player Zhang Wei is frustrated by the lack, and he says he feels betrayed by the authorities.
“The Chinese community have had a lot of support from chess players for many years and the Chinese community are not happy that the chess community has been forced to shut its doors,” Zhang said.
There are many other chess players who are unhappy about this situation, Zhang said, adding that there is no way for the Chinese to win chess games without having the pieces available.
“When we lose a game we can always just play another game, we just need the pieces.”
